Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and engaging instructor to mentor a high school student in a structured, online research-based learning experience. The instructor will help guide the student through the process of experimental design, data interpretation, and manuscript writing, with the ultimate goal of producing a short research-style paper or presentation.
Details:
ย Schedule: 1.5 hours per session, 4 times per week for 2 weeks (total: 12 hours)
ย Format: Live online sessions via Zoom
ย Rate: $75ย100 per hour, depending on experience
ย Start Date: Flexible, ideally in July and August
Responsibilities:
ย Design and lead an engaging mini-curriculum focused on the basics of scientific inquiry and academic writing
ย Introduce foundational concepts (e.g., hypothesis, experimental methods, data interpretation)
ย Guide the student in topic exploration and structured writing
ย Provide feedback on drafts and progress
Qualifications:
ย Experience in research and/or academic instruction (postdocs or graduate students with publications)
ย Strong communication skills and a passion for teaching
ย Experience mentoring teens or teaching at the high school or college level preferred, but not required
ย Ability to inspire curiosity and adapt content to the studentยs interests and level
