About the position
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) Physical Health & Wellness (PH&W) Specialist develops and executes multiweek programs and events to educate, coach, and empower wounded service members in pursuit of achievement of their physical health and wellness goals. Responsibilities β’ Identify, screen, and recruit warriors for participation in quarterly virtual and in person Physical Health & Wellness events and coaching programs. β’ Plan agenda and execute multiday PH&W coaching program kick off events, providing fitness, nutrition, mobility, sleep, and health-focused education to warriors with limited to no supervision from manager.
β’ Create individualized coaching programs to help warriors achieve their physical health and wellness goals. β’ Manage warrior participation throughout 90-day coaching program, providing encouragement, support, and connection to resources through regular coaching sessions delivered by telephone or Zoom. β’ Provide instruction, guidance, and coaching using motivational interviewing skills to encourage behavior change and support the progress of warrior's health focused SMART goals. β’ Develop and execute in person events, virtual education, competitions, and wellness challenges for warriors and their families.
β’ Develop and facilitate virtual programming content via Zoom, Facebook Live, and other technology-based platforms. β’ Collaborate with physical health and wellness teammates to develop new, innovative content and curriculum. β’ Identify and recommend new programming opportunities aimed at increasing overall impact. β’ Learn and implement various modalities to execute during events and follow up, including Learning Management Systems (LMS). β’ Establish and maintain community relationships to build an ecosystem of PH&W support for warriors.
β’ Collaborate with multiple WWP departments and other key stakeholders to deliver programming and services to warriors and their families. β’ Conduct public speaking activities to raise awareness of PH&W programming and discuss the importance of starting and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. β’ Maintain budgets for PH&W programming within assigned region in support of leadership. β’ Manage information within various systems, ensuring accuracy while maintaining data integrity/security, e.g. Salesforce. β’ Utilize validated metrics to meet strategic outcomes and key performance indicators.
β’ Manage multiple tasks, assignments, and functions, being comfortable in a fast-paced, innovative environment. β’ Participate in workgroups for special projects and programming initiatives as assigned. β’ Assist with onboarding and training of new teammates as needed. β’ Attend and actively participate in required training and/or meetings, including but not limited to New Teammate Orientation, WWP Cares, ASIST Suicide Prevention training, Leadership training, culture/team based training, or departmental huddles.
β’ Other related duties as assigned. Requirements β’ Four years of experience working in the fitness industry, allied health profession, health management, wellness coaching, strength and conditioning, or personal/athletic training. β’ Two years of experience with longitudinal plan design, teaching, guiding, and coaching in the categories of fitness, nutrition, wellness, and/or athletics. β’ Bachelor's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, human performance, or a related health science field.
β’ Valid state-issued driver's license. β’ CPR-First Aid certification. β’ Ability to obtain ASIST Certification within 1 year of hire. Nice-to-haves β’ Two years of experience working with and providing support to wounded service members dealing with health issues and invisible injuries. β’ One year of event planning experience. β’ One year of experience with customer relationship management and event management systems, e.g., Salesforce, CVENT. β’ Master's degree in exercise science, exercise physiology, kinesiology, nutrition, human performance, or a related health science field.
β’ Personal Training certification (ACE, ACSM, NASM, NSCA), Strength and Conditioning certification (CSCS), or other related fitness certification. β’ Wellness coaching certification. β’ ASIST Certification.
