Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Palomar is a rapidly growing and innovative insurer focused on providing specialty insurance to residential and commercial customers. They are seeking a detail-oriented Crop Insurance Underwriter to support agents and internal teams throughout the policy lifecycle, ensuring accurate and efficient delivery of crop insurance products with exceptional customer service.
Responsibilities
- Learn, apply, and maintain knowledge of RMA regulations and established deadlines, including sales closing, acreage reporting, and production reporting, with appropriate training and resources provided
- Accurately enter, review, and audit policy information in underwriting systems for assigned territories, products, and agencies
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of crop types and insurance plans within assigned regions
- Build and sustain collaborative, professional relationships with assigned agents through clear communication and mutual accountability
- Provide training, guidance, and problem‑resolution support to agents and insureds in a respectful and service‑oriented manner
- Collaborate cross‑functionally with partners in sales, claims, accounting, and technology to deliver consistent and high‑quality service
- Contribute to underwriting production goals, including policy volume and premium targets, in alignment with team objectives
- Maintain accurate and complete documentation to support audit readiness and regulatory compliance
- Identify and resolve internal and FCIC error listings accurately and in alignment with established timelines and procedures
- Organize and maintain policy files in accordance with documented processing guidelines
- Support managers and team initiatives by contributing to special projects or assignments as business needs evolve
Skills
- High school diploma or GED required
- One to three years of relevant experience in underwriting, insurance processing, agriculture, customer service, or a related field
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately with detailed information and maintain organized records
- Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex information in a clear and respectful manner
- Working proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (including Excel, Outlook, and Word) and the ability to learn underwriting or related systems
- Ability to present information and engage with groups in a professional and inclusive manner
- Commitment to delivering a positive customer experience, with a thoughtful and solution-oriented approach to problem solving
- Ability to collaborate effectively as part of a team, demonstrate adaptability, and engage in ongoing learning
- Comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment, with appropriate guidance and support
- Values collaboration, respect, and shared accountability within a team-based workplace
- An associate or bachelor's degree is a plus
- Prior crop insurance experience is helpful but not required; training and support are provided
