As a Field Service Engineer I, you will support the installation, maintenance, and repair of sophisticated analytical and microscopy equipment while developing technical expertise and building customer relationships.


Responsibilities

  • Assist with on-site installation, repair, testing, and maintenance of electron microscopy systems, including:Scanning Electron Microscopes (SEM)Transmission Electron Microscopes (TEM)Focused Ion Beam (FIB) systems
  • Perform scheduled preventive maintenance to ensure systems operate according to specifications
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose system issues with guidance from senior engineers when required
  • Support senior field service engineers with complex repairs and system calibrations
  • Develop positive working relationships with customers, system users, and internal teams
  • Travel to customer sites, sometimes on short notice, to provide technical support and service
  • Document service activities and submit detailed field service reports
  • Provide basic customer training on system operation and routine maintenance
  • Follow safety procedures and quality standards when servicing equipment in laboratory environments
  • Provide feedback to product quality and engineering teams regarding system performance
  • Maintain accurate service documentation and support updates to technical service materials

Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electronics, Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field or 4+ years of equivalent education and experience in electronic systems
  • 1+ years of hands-on technical experience installing, troubleshooting, repairing, or calibrating sophisticated analytical equipment such as SEM, TEM, FIB, or similar systems
  • Valid driver's license required
  • Ability to travel up to 75% within assigned territory
  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in laboratory environments
  • Proficiency in English required, additional languages beneficial
  • Strong electronics and mechanical troubleshooting skills with the ability to diagnose issues to the component level
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and electrical schematics
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently after training
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organizational and time management capabilities
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and service management software
  • Experience documenting service activities and preparing detailed reports
  • Ability to effectively train and support customers on equipment operation
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety protocols and quality standards
  • Ability to respond to customer needs with short notice
  • Demonstrated success contributing to customer satisfaction goals
  • Experience working with ultra-high vacuum (UHV) systems and high voltage equipment preferred
