Our client is a nationwide mortgage lender that provides a wide range of home financing solutions, including conventional, FHA, VA, and other mortgage products. The company focuses on helping borrowers achieve homeownership through personalized lending services, in-house underwriting and processing, and innovative programs designed to make home buying more competitive. With hundreds of loan originators and dozens of branch locations across the U.S., our client serves homebuyers, homeowners, and real estate partners nationwide.
Salary:
$85,000 – $95,000 base salary, with eligibility for overtime pay and a $3,000 – $15,000 annual bonus based on loan volume.
Job Summary:
The Level II Underwriter is responsible for reviewing and underwriting residential mortgage loan files in compliance with company, investor, and government guidelines. This fully remote role evaluates borrowers' financials, identifies potential risks or fraud, and collaborates with internal teams to ensure loans are properly structured and that all underwriting conditions are met before closing.
- Job Responsibilities:
- Underwrite loan credit packages and appraisals promptly to ensure compliance with investor and government agency guidelines.
- Review and analyze borrower income, including personal and corporate tax returns.
- Evaluate loan packages for potential risk, inconsistencies, or fraudulent documentation.
- Communicate underwriting decisions clearly to appropriate parties both verbally and in writing.
- Work with Loan Originators to restructure loans when necessary to meet investor requirements.
- Coordinate with the Processing and Closing departments to ensure all underwriting conditions are satisfied prior to closing.
- Review and clear underwriting conditions before loan funding.
- Communicate with private investors and government agencies to resolve loan file issues or program questions.
- Stay informed on current mortgage regulations, compliance requirements, and investor guidelines.
- Qualifications:
- At least 5 years of recent underwriting experience handling Conventional (CONV) and FHA loans.
- DE (Direct Endorsement) certification required; VA designation is a plus.
- Strong understanding of investor and government lending guidelines.
- Experience reviewing and analyzing complex financial documents, including personal and corporate tax returns.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify inconsistencies or potential fraud.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
