Mission Underwriting Services is a company that provides capital and resources for launching Program Administrator businesses in the insurance sector. They are seeking a highly experienced Principal Engineer to lead the design and development of AI-driven solutions for insurance carrier integration, focusing on enhancing platform capabilities and streamlining workflows. Responsibilities • Design and oversee scalable, secure, and reliable carrier API integrations (REST, SOAP, EDI, ACORD, proprietary carrier systems) • Define patterns, frameworks, and reusable services to accelerate onboarding of new carriers and lines of business • Develop AI/ML pipelines to extract, normalize, and map submission and policy data (ACORD forms, loss runs, SOVs, proposals) • Collaborate with Data Science/AI teams to embed LLMs and vector search into underwriting workflows • Evaluate emerging AI models and frameworks to ensure practical, bolthires-efficient adoption • Serve as a hands-on technical leader, writing high-quality code and setting engineering best practices • Mentor senior engineers on AI, system integration, and distributed architectures • Partner with Product, Carrier Relations, and Operations to align integration roadmaps with business goals • Drive performance, scalability, and reliability improvements across the integration and AI pipelines • Collaborate with DevOps on AWS-based infrastructure (EC2, Lambda, S3, Bedrock, Step Functions, API Gateway) • Ensure compliance with data security, SOC2, and industry standards Skills • 10+ years in software engineering, with 5+ years in a senior/principal role • Strong background in insurance carrier integrations, ACORD standards, or related InsurTech systems • Proficiency in Node.js/TypeScript (Python experience a plus) • Strong knowledge of REST/SOAP APIs, event-driven systems, and microservices • Familiarity with AI/ML pipelines, LLMs, and vector databases (e.g., MongoDB Atlas Vector Search, Pinecone, Redis) • Solid understanding of cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) • Proven ability to set technical direction, mentor senior engineers, and influence cross-functional teams • Pragmatic, collaborative, and passionate about using technology to transform the insurance industry • Experience with commercial insurance quoting/underwriting platforms • Familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements in insurance data processing • Hands-on experience with Quasar/Vue front-end frameworks Benefits • Remote First Work Environment (US Based) • Medical, Dental, Vision • 401K, 401K Match • Life and Disability Benefits • Unaccrued Paid Time Off • 11 Paid Holidays • Employee Discounts • Employee Assistance Program • Educational Assistance Program • Employee Referral Program • Paid Parental Leave Company Overview • Capital, Technology and Operational Resources to Help You Start
