Senior Tax Manager / Tax Director – State & Local Tax (SALT)

A fast-growing, mid-sized CPA firm headquartered in Indiana is seeking a Senior Tax Manager or Tax Director to lead and expand its State & Local Tax (SALT) practice. With steady year-over-year growth and increasing multistate demand, this is a rare opportunity to step into a high-visibility leadership role and shape the future of a thriving service line.

This isn’t a traditional compliance-heavy SALT position.
- This is a consulting-forward leadership opportunity where you will:
- Drive multistate tax strategy for complex, growth-oriented clients
- Lead nexus studies, income/franchise tax planning, sales & use tax strategy, credits & incentives, and controversy support
- Advise clients expanding into new jurisdictions
- Identify planning opportunities that create measurable impact
You’ll be empowered to build, lead, and scale the SALT practice—with full executive support and a clear pathway to Partner-level advancement.
- What You’ll Do
- Serve as the firm’s SALT technical leader and primary subject matter expert
- Develop and execute the strategic vision for the SALT service line
- Provide high-level consulting across income/franchise, sales & use, gross receipts, and multistate planning
- Mentor and develop rising tax professionals
- Collaborate with firm leadership on growth initiatives
- Participate in business development and thought leadership efforts
- Who You Are
- 8+ years of progressive SALT experience (public accounting preferred)
- Deep technical expertise in multistate income/franchise and sales & use tax
- Strong client advisory and consulting background
- Proven leadership experience or readiness to step into a service line leadership role
- CPA required (JD/LLM a plus)
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a desire to build and grow

- Base Salary upwards of $220K Base + Bonus
