Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. Major, Lindsey & Africa is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Autonomous Vehicle (AV) Regulatory Counsel with significant experience in AV regulatory compliance. The role involves ensuring U.S. AV regulatory compliance, developing recall strategies, and providing legal guidance on commercial contracts and data privacy matters relevant to AV operations.
- Responsibilities
- U.S. AV regulatory compliance (NHTSA / DOT)
- Regulatory treatment of autonomous driving systems (device/kit vs. vehicle)
- Recall strategy, recall readiness, and regulatory response
- Safety risk frameworks, risk matrices, and vehicle operability for critical safety functions
- Reducing reliance on outside counsel; translating regulation into practical guidance for engineers
- Broader Commercial & Compliance Support Provide targeted support on:
- Supply chain–related contracts and regulatory issues
- Commercial agreements connected to AV deployments
- Data privacy and data governance matters relevant to AV operations
- Proactively spotting issues early and escalating strategically rather than reactively
- Skills
- JD and Attorney in Good Standing in at least one State
- At least 5-8 years of experience in Regulatory Compliance
- Former NHTSA / DOT attorney or regulator, or
- AV company regulatory/compliance lead, or
- Automaker regulatory counsel with strong AV exposure and a practical, business‑oriented temperament
- Deep familiarity with U.S. vehicle safety regulations and recall processes
- Comfortable working directly with engineering and safety teams
- Experience supporting legal departments through scaling phases
- Background in commercial contracts, particularly in B2B SaaS or hardware/software technology companies
- Exposure to IP matters (patents, trademarks, licensing)
