JOB DESCRIPTIONApex Systems is seeking a Senior Consultant – Data Governance to support the implementation and operationalization of enterprise data governance programs. This role will work within an established governance framework to execute playbooks, enable stewardship, manage metadata and MDM processes, and support data quality initiatives. The ideal candidate is experienced in executing governance processes, supporting stewardship communities, and operationalizing governance standards across domains. Employees who are not actively deployed on a client project and reside within a one-hour commute of an Apex branch office are expected to work onsite at least once per week. RESPONSIBLITIESDesigns stewardship activities, including onboarding data stewards and coordinating domain-level governance processes.Design data classification and labeling initiatives across systems and domains.Designs and builds and maintain business glossaries and data catalogs.Support metadata management processes, including documentation and ongoing maintenance.Define enterprise DQ dimensions, rules, controls, and remediation workflows coordination. This includes building data quality playbooks.Designs and maintain data lineage and ability to also do it within governance tools.Partner with business and technical stakeholders to operate governance standards.Implements data governance tool configuration and usage (Collibra or similar platforms).Participate in governance forums and working groups to drive adoption.Supports MDM and aligns its capabilities to the data governance framework capabilities.Drive organization wide identification and governance of Critical Data Elements.Oversee enterprise master and reference data lifecycle, definitions, and approved values.Deep expertise in metadata, master data, data quality, lineageWork with Security/IT on RBAC, entitlement reviews, and data protection validation.Lead education sessions, awareness campaigns, onboarding for DG roles. JOB REQUIREMENTS5+ years of experience in data governance, data stewardship, or metadata management.Experience supporting governance playbooks, standards, or instructional guides.Excellent communication and ability to simplify complex data concepts.Understanding of:Data stewardship modelsData classification and labelingMetadata and MDM managementData quality Foundational data governance stand upPolicy and standard creationDomain and sub-domain working knowledge Experience working within data governance tools such as Microsoft Purview, Collibra, Alation, Atlan or similar platforms.Experience building or maintaining business glossaries and metadata repositories.Familiarity with documenting data lineage.Strong stakeholder collaboration skills.Ability to help operationalize governance programs (not necessarily lead them).Background as a data steward or working closely with stewardship communities preferred.Basic SQL knowledge is helpful but not required.Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Management, Business, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred.Exposure to Master Data Management (MDM) concepts or programs preferred. Experience supporting regulatory or compliance-driven governance initiatives preferred.Experience working in cross-functional enterprise environments preferred.Consultancy Background preferred.
