Echo Services is looking for a strategic and hands-on taxonomy and metadata architect for a managed service supporting the design, governance, and implementation of enterprise knowledge structures that power intelligent search, Copilot experiences, and knowledge discovery across various ecosystems. You’ll help shape how content is classified, connected, and surfaced, transforming information into actionable insight for thousands of users across business functions. The ideal candidate blends deep taxonomy expertise, technical implementation skills, and the ability to communicate complex concepts to stakeholders from engineers and PMs to executives. You’ll play a pivotal role in transforming enterprise content into a strategic knowledge asset enabling Copilot, AI search, and information management systems to deliver smarter insights and faster answers. Your work will directly influence how people find, share, and use information across the organization. Key Responsibilities Taxonomy Strategy & Governance • Help define and implement enterprise taxonomy and metadata strategies aligned with business and knowledge management objectives. • Lead impact analyses, audits, and continuous improvement of existing taxonomies, metadata schemas, and tagging frameworks. • Establish governance models for managed metadata, content types, and metadata-driven workflows. • Partner with data owners, information architects, and content managers to ensure consistent use of metadata and controlled vocabularies. Technical Implementation • Architect, configure, and maintain Taxonomy APISharePoint Term Store global term groups and term sets, content types, managed metadata • Design and manage API integrations connecting taxonomy and term store data with Copilot agents, search, and knowledge management systems. • Implement taxonomy endpoints, metadata tagging automation, and ontology synchronization between systems (e.g., Taxonomy Service → Power Platform). • Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure scalable, high-performance taxonomy API and metadata services. • Identify and implement success measures to validate projected outcomes. Knowledge Graph & Ontology Development • Develop and maintain semantic models and ontologies using PoolParty or similar tools. • Support connection of business glossaries and controlled vocabularies to enterprise applications, AI, CRM systems, and project management tools for improved knowledge consistency and retrieval. • Enable Copilot and AI-powered tools to leverage taxonomy-driven knowledge graphs for contextual recommendations and summarization. Collaboration & Leadership • Serve as taxonomy subject matter expert lead across multiple concurrent projects, balancing strategic oversight with hands-on delivery. • Communicate complex taxonomy, ontology, and metadata concepts clearly and effectively to engineers, program managers, and executives across a matrixed organization. • Deliver content tailored for both persuasive and informative knowledge-sharing presentations, supporting new implementations and strategic initiatives. • Mentor and upskill taxonomy specialists and analysts, fostering a culture of knowledge-sharing and technical excellence. • Partner with new clients or internal business units to translate information organization challenges into practical, scalable solutions. Qualifications • 8+ years in taxonomy design, metadata management, or knowledge architecture roles. • Deep knowledge of taxonomy principles, metadata governance, ontology management, and information retrieval. • Technical expertise in: • SharePoint Online / Microsoft 365 term store and content types • Syntex / SharePoint Premium (content AI) • PoolParty or comparable semantic platforms • API development and integration for metadata/taxonomy endpoints • Experience connecting taxonomy frameworks to Copilot, CRM systems, or enterprise knowledge tools. • Demonstrated success leading taxonomy and metadata implementations end-to-end from strategy and stakeholder alignment to deployment and adoption. • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to bridge business needs and technical execution. • Experience with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, Asana) and CRM systems (e.g., Dynamics 365, Salesforce). • Master’s in Information Science/Management, Library Science, Knowledge Management, or related field. Preferred Skills • Understanding of semantic search, knowledge graphs, and AI-driven content enrichment including retrieval augmented generation (RAG). • Background in consulting or client engagement, particularly managed services supporting metadata strategy or digital workplace transformation. • Experience leading or contributing to metadata-driven AI or Copilot implementations.
