Senior Technology Designer (Telecom, AV, Electronic Security)
Open to remote candidates (client is based in Charlotte, NC). Work model: Site visits and occasional travel required. Compensation: $100,000 to $120,000+ base salary plus bonus eligibility and comprehensive benefits.

Position Summary
- The Senior Technology Designer leads the production and coordination of construction documents for building technology systems including telecommunications, audiovisual, wireless, public safety distribution, and electronic security. This role is hands-on in Revit and AutoCAD, translating requirements into coordinated drawings, details, risers, schedules, narratives, and technical specifications. You will be client-facing, support construction-phase activities, and mentor junior designers while maintaining strong quality control.What You Will Do
- Develop full construction drawing packages and specifications for:
- Telecommunications and structured cabling systems (voice/data)
- AV presentation and conferencing systems
- Wireless systems including Wi-Fi coordination and layouts where applicable
- Public safety distribution systems and related infrastructure where applicable
- Electronic security systems including access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance
- Intercom, public address, and other specialty systems as needed
- Produce Revit-based BIM deliverables, including:
- Device and equipment layouts
- Schedules and legends
- Details, typicals, and installation requirements
- Riser diagrams and pathway/topology documentation
- Coordination support for multi-discipline model integration
- Utilize AutoCAD to develop plans and details as required by project standards and client expectations
- Review project requirements, basis-of-design inputs, and specifications to define scope and approach for assigned work
- Participate in client meetings and project workshops to gather requirements, present design concepts, and incorporate feedback
- Coordinate closely with internal disciplines (MEP, fire protection, architectural partners) to resolve clashes and ensure constructability
- Support construction phase efforts by reviewing submittals/shop drawings, responding to RFIs, and performing site walks/field verification
- Perform or support field investigations to gather existing conditions and validate design assumptions
- Prepare technical narratives and edit/review project specifications to ensure clarity, completeness, and compliance
- Execute and support quality control by:
- Reviewing deliverables prior to submission
- Performing internal technical reviews of peers where needed
- Ensuring drawings/specs align with standards and project requirements
- Assist project leadership with fee inputs and level-of-effort estimates for proposals and RFP responses
- Mentor and guide junior designers to improve production quality, standards compliance, and workflow efficiency Required Qualifications
- RCDD certification
- 10+ years of experience designing building technology systems, including:
- Voice/data structured cabling systems
- AV presentation and conferencing systems
- Wireless systems including Wi-Fi
- Access control, intrusion detection, and video surveillance
- Demonstrated experience producing building telecommunications design and construction documentation
- Strong familiarity with BICSI TDMM and TIA design criteria/standards
- Advanced capability in Autodesk Revit and AutoCAD with practical BIM production experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) and PDF markup/review tools (Bluebeam or Adobe)
- Ability to communicate clearly with clients and internal stakeholders, including presenting design intent and responding to feedback
- Strong organization, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple deadlines and concurrent projects Preferred Qualifications
- Additional certifications such as OSP, PSP, CTS-D, and/or DCDC
- Familiarity with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and other government or military design standards
- Exposure to electrical power, lighting, and fire alarm coordination
