SEO Specialist – Ongoing Support for eCommerce SEO Consultancy

🌍 Remote, USA 🎯 Full-time 🕐 Posted Recently

Job Description

I run a small, solo SEO consultancy that works with eCommerce and service-based brands across Australia. I handle all client strategy, communication, and project management, but I'm looking for a reliable SEO specialist to support me with execution tasks on an ongoing, weekly basis.

This isn't a leadership role. I'll brief you on tasks each week, and I need someone who can get them done efficiently and to a high standard. Think of it as being my right hand in the background. You won't interact with clients directly, but your work will be client-facing.

What the work looks like (week to week)

The tasks will vary depending on what's happening across my client accounts, but here's a realistic picture of what you'd be doing:

  • Keyword research and search demand analysis using tools like Ahrefs to identify opportunities, map keywords to pages, and document findings
  • Blog content editing and QA reviewing AI-drafted blog content before it goes to clients, checking for accuracy, readability, keyword alignment, and on-page SEO best practices
  • On-page implementation uploading content, optimising meta titles/descriptions, internal linking, image optimisation, and basic CMS work (Shopify, WordPress, or similar)
  • Reporting and data pulls from Google Search Console, GA4, and Ahrefs to support monthly reporting
  • Technical SEO checks running weekly BAU checks in GSC and Ahrefs, flagging anything unusual (crawl errors, indexing issues, coverage drops)
  • Collection/category page support helping organise and optimise product collections for eCommerce clients
  • Google Business Profile management creating and scheduling posts, updating profiles
  • Ad-hoc research including competitor analysis, content gap analysis, or anything else that comes up

What I'm looking for

  • 4+ years of hands-on SEO experience. You've done the work, not just read about it.
  • Comfortable with Ahrefs. Daily driver level, not just familiar.
  • Familiar with Google Search Console and GA4. Can navigate, pull data, and spot issues.
  • CMS experience. Shopify and/or WordPress preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, especially when editing content or implementing on-page changes.
  • Reliable and self-motivated. I'll give you clear briefs, but I need to trust that things get done without chasing.
  • Proactive. If you spot an opportunity or an issue while working, flag it.
  • Strong written English. Content will be client-facing for Australian brands.

Nice to have (not required)

  • Experience with eCommerce SEO specifically
  • Familiarity with AI content workflows and N8N
  • Experience with reporting dashboards (Looker Studio, BigQuery)
  • Understanding of schema markup and technical SEO fundamentals

The arrangement

  • Around 15 to 20 hours per month (roughly 5 hours per week)
  • Ongoing, weekly commitment. I'll send a task list at the start of each week.
  • Budget: $10 to $50/hr depending on experience and location
  • Fully remote. I'm based in Australia (ACST), but timezone isn't a dealbreaker as long as work is delivered on time.
  • NDA required. You'll be working with confidential client data and will need to sign a confidentiality agreement before starting.
  • Trial period. We'll start with a 2 to 4 week paid trial to make sure we're a good fit.

A bit about me

I've got over 10 years of SEO experience, having worked with some of Australia's biggest brands across eCommerce, jobs, automotive and retail. With the right person, I'd love to build a genuine working relationship. I'm happy to share knowledge, mentor where I can, and geek out on all things AI and SEO together. But first and foremost, I need someone I can rely on to get things done.

To apply, please answer these questions:

1. Give me a brief summary of your SEO experience (agencies, freelance, in-house, whatever applies).

2. What is the SEO strategy or execution you're most proud of, and why?

3. Where would you say you are most skilled: technical SEO, content, or link building?

4. What is your hourly rate and typical weekly availability?

5. Are you available to be online during Australian business hours (ACST) when needed, or is there any crossover with your timezone?

Skip the generic Upwork cover letter templates. I want to hear from you. Thanks!
