We’re a mechanical engineering consultancy specializing in rugged consumer products, electromechanical assemblies, and hard goods (think power tools, appliances, and durable enclosures, not medical devices or construction). Our clients come to us for design-for-manufacturing expertise, particularly injection molding and precision mechanisms.
We’re looking for a skilled SolidWorks subcontractor to support execution on overflow projects while our principal engineer focuses on client relationships and technical direction.
This is not a one-off gig. We’re looking to build a long-term working relationship with someone who can become a trusted extension of our team.
=== What You’ll Do ===
∙ Model parts and assemblies in SolidWorks based on technical direction, sketches, or reference geometry we provide.
∙ Apply DFM principles (draft, wall thickness, radii, gate considerations) for injection-molded plastics, sheet metal, and 3D printing.
∙ Participate in asynchronous check-ins and communicate proactively when you hit blockers or have questions.
∙ Maintain strict CAD hygiene: named features, organized trees, fully defined sketches, no dangling references.
=== Required Qualifications ===
∙ 3+ years of professional SolidWorks experience (not academic projects).
∙ Demonstrated experience designing parts for injection molding or other high-volume manufacturing processes.
∙ Portfolio includes consumer products or electromechanical assemblies with drawings (not just renders).
∙ Strong command of GD&T and tolerance stack-up thinking
∙ Availability of 10-20 hours/week, with flexibility to scale up during peak periods.
=== Preferred Qualifications ===
∙ CSWP or CSWE certification.
∙ Experience with PDM or structured version control.
∙ Background at a product design consultancy or consumer goods OEM.
∙ Has access to a 3D printer for rapid prototyping.
=== Compensation ===
∙ Hourly rate, commensurate with experience and expertise.
∙ Paid test project (6-8 hours) before any live client work.
∙ Milestone-based billing preferred for larger scopes.
