We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Special Education Teaching Assistant to join our team at Community Unit School District 200, serving students in Warrenville, IL, and Wheaton, IL. About the Role:


  • Job Title: Special Education Teaching Assistant - High School

  • Company: Community Unit School District 200

  • School Year: 2022-2023

  • Hourly Rate: $14.29 (determined by CEA collective bargaining agreement)

  • Hours: 6.5 hours/day, 178 workdays/year (full-time)

Key Responsibilities:

The Special Education Teaching Assistant will work closely with classroom teachers and building principals to assist students with disabilities in both instructional and non-instructional activities. The primary focus will be on enhancing the educational process and supporting students' diverse needs.

Requirements and Qualifications:

Licensure:

The State of Illinois requires Special Education Teaching Assistants to have one of the following:


  • Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL)

  • Current Illinois Substitute Teaching License

  • Current Illinois Educator License with Stipulations Endorsed-Paraprofessional Educator

If you do not already hold a Teaching/Substitute License, the requirements are:


  • Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution

  • 60 semester hours of coursework from a regionally accredited institution

  • High school diploma, or equivalent + 480 or higher on the ETS Parapro test

  • High school diploma, or equivalent + 4 or higher on the ACT WorkKeys Applied Math and Workplace Documents

Additional Job Qualifications:


  • Ability to work effectively with children

  • Ability to function within the school environment

  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills

  • Working knowledge of child guidance principles and practices, behavior management, and positive reinforcement

  • Basic record-keeping methods and mechanical lifting/positioning devices

Physical Ability:

The employee will be required to:


  • Sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl regularly

  • Lift and move up to 100 lbs occasionally

  • Push/pull items up to 100 lbs

Work Environment:

The work environment may involve potential exposure to:


  • Communicable diseases and contact with blood and other body fluids

  • Physical injury from aggressive behavior
