Job Summary:
The Special Education Teaching Assistant - Middle School assists teachers in meeting the needs of special education students, enhancing their educational experience in both instructional and non-instructional activities. This is a unique opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment, making a positive impact on students' lives.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with providing activities for a balanced program of instruction
- Reinforce information following lessons
- Work with students individually or in small groups in academic studies and basic life skills
- Implement behavior modification plans and procedures
- Maintain confidentiality and positive relationships with students, staff, and parents
- Observe and record students' progress
- Assist with hygiene and toileting activities, and sanitize classroom equipment
Requirements:
- Current Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) or equivalent
- Associate degree or higher from a regionally accredited institution
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively with children and function within a school environment
- Knowledge of child guidance principles, behavior management, and classroom procedures
Physical Ability:
The employee will be required to sit, stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Occasional lifting and moving of up to 100 lbs, and pushing/pulling items up to 100 lbs.
Work Environment:
Potential exposure to communicable diseases, physical injury from aggressive behavior, and contact with blood and other body fluids.
