POSITION SUMMARY The Staff Accountant I will maintain financial procedures and record financial transactions for assets, liabilities, income and expenses. The Staff Accountant I also ensures financial compliance through preparation of reports and financial statements. PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES β’ Prepare, process and post journal entries timely and accurately. β’ Assure that financial accounts are reconciled timely and accurately. β’ Support timely and efficient month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. β’ Perform account analysis to identify and explain variances. β’ Maintaining proper documentation and filing of supporting documents, including approvals. β’ Assist with internal and external audit requests. β’ Liaise with the bank and other parties as required. β’ Perform backup duties within the department as required. SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (STAFF ACCOUNTANT I) β FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING β’ Prepare and file monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. β’ Ensures accuracy of journal entries and reconciliations of data sources to the general ledger. β’ Maintain the general ledger system and reports, including processing and uploading changes to general ledger accounts using Integration Manager (Great Plains). β’ Responsible for preparation and filing of annual escheat reports including remittance of monies to various states in a timely manner. β’ Assist in the preparation and submission of compliance and regulatory filings such as statistical and financial data requests from Department of Insurance, data calls, and US census reports. β’ Perform validity checks on accounting reports from Information Systems to ensure that they are generated accurately and on a timely basis. EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE β’ Bachelorβs degree or equivalent in Accounting or related field. β’ 0 to 3 years of relevant work experience. (Staff Accountant I). β’ Knowledge of systems and processes related to treasury and financial management. β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. β’ Strong attention to detail and ability to operate with a high degree of accuracy. β’ Strong initiative, organizational skills and ability to self-manage while remaining flexible to changing tasks and priorities. β’ Excellent Typing skills and 10 Key by touch. β’ Microsoft Office suite experience required; strong Excel skills preferred. β’ Microsoft Dynamics GP experience preferred. β’ Insurance background a plus.
