Job Description
I am conducting market research into the operational reality of CCPA/CPRA compliance for mid-market companies in California. I want to understand the "Gap" between what the law (for example 2026 Audit Regulations) requires and what is actually happening on the ground.
I am looking for a consultant or fractional privacy officer who manages multiple clients and can provide "insider" insights into their current struggles, decision-making, and spending habits.
【What I Want to Learn (Deliverables)】
Through a 1-hour consultation, I need you to help me "see through the eyes" of your clients:
The "Messy" Reality: How are mid-sized firms currently handling CCPA? Is it a "fire drill" every time a request comes in? Who is actually doing the work (an overworked IT guy, a part-time paralegal, or no one)?
The Trigger Points: What actually makes an owner of a $50M company decide to spend money on compliance? Is it a letter from the AG, a demand from a big B2B customer (like Walmart/Amazon), or genuine fear?
Resource Allocation: Do they prefer buying expensive SaaS (like OneTrust) and letting it sit idle, or are they looking for "done-for-you" services? Why do they choose one over the other?
2026 Audit Panic: How much do they actually know about the new 2026 Cybersecurity Audit rules? Are they ignoring it, or are they looking for a path to comply without hiring a Big 4 firm?
The Competitor Landscape: When they look for help, who do they call first? Their tax CPA? An expensive law firm? Or a local IT shop?
【Who You Are】
You have a track record of consulting for multiple California-based mid-market firms (Retail, E-commerce, Healthcare, or Logistics).
You are likely a Fractional CPO, a Compliance Consultant, or a Privacy Program Manager.
You can speak candidly about the organizational politics and budget constraints of these companies.
(Optional but preferred) You hold a CIPP/US or CISA, but your practical experience with client psychology is more important.
【Work Style】
60-minute deep-dive interview via face-to-face talk or Zoom.
No legal advice needed—just honest market intelligence.
I am a professional (SWE + CPA) looking to understand real landscape, not theoretical ones.
