Purpose: RSS Summer Interns work together with CWS staff to help run programming. This is a chance for recent refugee high school graduates to build resumes with relevant professional office, program management, teaching, and IT experience. RSS interns will be held accountable to professional standards of conduct. Interns must have their own transportation to the office, come to work reliably and on time, and show initiative in accomplishing tasks. Tasks include but are not limited to staffing the front desk and assisting clients entering the refugee office, assisting CWS staff run summer youth programming, helping set up new computers for clients, helping clients set up internet in their homes, teaching basic computer classes, helping the medical liaison run programs, interpreting for staff, and other duties. Staff would first teach youth how to do these things. Pay is $18-$21 an hour. Part-time and full-time positions available. Work hours are Monday – Friday 8:30am – 4:30 pm. No weekend or evening hours available. Responsibilities: Assist CWS staff with assigned tasks. Staff the office front desk and assist or refer clients coming to the refugee office to appropriate CWS caseworker. Assist RSS staff with training refugees on basic computer usage. Answer CWS front desk phone, check voicemail and give messages to appropriate caseworkers. Assist with CWS youth summer programs. Interpret for staff when meeting with clients. Qualifications: Experience : Experience interacting with people from diverse backgrounds and language proficiencies preferred. Recent graduate of Harrisonburg City or Rockingham County Public Schools with a refugee background strongly preferred. Skills: English fluency required. Fluency in language common among refugee population preferred. Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment required. Education & Certifications: High School Diploma Preferred Special Requirements: Might have to travel to Staunton area. Proficiency in MS Office and other internet applications. Valid driver’s license required and own, reliable transportation to work. Ability to lift 10 lbs. of weight, work in particular conditions, etc. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
