About the position SLC is currently looking for a Sustainability Manager to join our Estates Team at one of our locations – either Glasgow, Darlington or Llandudno in this new permanent role. As Sustainability Manager at SLC, you will be at the forefront of shaping our future. This is your opportunity to lead the development of SLC’s Sustainability Strategy, ensuring it aligns with the Greening Government Commitments and the Department for Education’s Sustainability Strategy. You will implement and monitor initiatives that strengthen our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance, while inspiring colleagues at every level to embrace sustainability.
Responsibilities • Lead the development of SLC’s Sustainability Strategy • Ensure alignment with the Greening Government Commitments and the Department for Education’s Sustainability Strategy • Implement and monitor initiatives that strengthen our environmental, social, and governance (ESG) performance • Inspire colleagues at every level to embrace sustainability Requirements • Excellent understanding of sustainability principles, environmental legislation, and reporting frameworks, with proven experience in interpreting and ensuring compliance.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, plan, budget, and implement sustainability projects effectively. • Skilled in data analysis and strategy development to track progress, benchmark performance, and inform decision-making. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with experience managing stakeholders across government, suppliers, regulators, and internal teams. • Confident user of bolthires Office and other tools essential for reporting, monitoring, and delivering sustainability initiatives.
• Qualification in environmental science, sustainability, or a related field, plus professional certification (e.g., Institute of Sustainability, Carbon Neutral Britain, or similar). • Previous experience implementing sustainability principles and developing ESG strategies that drive organisational impact and continuous improvement.
