Summary:
The System Director for Research Strategy is responsible for the development, strategic oversight, and administration of the Ballad Health Research Institute (BHRI) strategic plan, Vision for Superior Discovery. In concert with the Vice President, Research Operations, this role ensures alignment with organizational goals and serves as a research subject matter expert on the BHRI leadership team. The Director fosters a culture of innovation internally and promotes collaboration with the external research community. Collaborating with internal functional units, the Director will analyze and evaluate contributions made by the BHRI to Ballad Health and the Appalachian Highlands region.
This role is critical to enhancing BHRI's research capabilities, driving innovation, and ensuring effective use of resources in support of research activities. This role has been designated as primarily remote but will require onsite attendance for high priority in-person meetings as stipulated by the VP, Research Operations.
RESPONSIBILITIES
In concert with the VP, Research Operations, establish and lead BHRI Strategic Themes. Provide the strategic direction for the administrative infrastructure needs of the research agendas at Ballad Health and work to develop new, creative approaches to innovative research. Align research initiatives with BHRI strategic priorities. Serve as the primary research strategy subject matter expert on the BHRI leadership team. Stay current on assessment and evaluation best practices. Enhance BHRI reputation by raising the external visibility of research achievements. Develop relationships with the regional academic and research communities to identify collaboration opportunities. Develop strategic approach to presentation and publishing. Present and publish research in academic forums. Leverage media opportunities and educate internal staff. The Director will collaborate with Corporate Compliance, Medical Affairs, Patient Care Services, and other departments as indicated to align the BHRI with Ballad Health strategic priorities. Additionally, the Director will review proposed projects, seek partnerships with external agencies and investigators to promote research that meets Ballad's mission and serve as a consultant for study design, protocol development, data collection, and analysis.

Requirements:
The Director requires a minimum of 5 years in progressively responsible experience in science, healthcare, education, or related field, including supervisory experience and experience with the research process. Requires strong business acumen and experience in strategic planning.
Education:
Bachelor's degree in science, healthcare, education, or related field. Master's or other advanced degree in an appropriate and related discipline is preferred and certification (e.g., CCRP, CRA, ACRP-CP) within the first year of employment is required.
