The opportunity

    We currently have an opportunity for a Systems Software Consultant to join our Corporate IT team based remotely within the United States. This position is responsible for providing technical support on decisions and priorities regarding the enterprise’s overall systems architecture. The role is also responsible for the creation and implementation of standards and guidelines for technical solutions including architecting and integration of multiple platforms, operating systems and applications across the enterprise. Some of the Systems Software Consultant responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  • Installs, configures and maintains Operating systems, systems software and systems utilities, that span or impact multiple platforms, according to defined standards. Leads the group in developing and defining the standard for software installation, configuration and maintenance. Researches new software solutions to solve complex technical problems or requirements that span multiple platforms.
  • Assesses, recommends, defines, designs and maintains complex hardware configurations based on application and system needs and anticipated growth. Gathers, organizes and analyzes capacity & performance data for entire platform configuration (processor, memory and I/O) to address questions, requirements and future needs. Identifies alternatives and recommends the best course of action. Presents findings, including Cost Benefit Analysis (CBA) and recommendation, to appropriate management level up to CIO.
  • Provides Tier III software and hardware support for all reported problems. Takes initial problem report, interviews users for details, and performs other data gathering. Works with vendors as needed to resolve complex problems and major shortcomings with their product and acquires & implements necessary modifications and fixes. Recognizes and analyzes recurring or related problems and identifies & implements permanent solutions.
  • Provides Tier III software and hardware support for all service requests and/or questions. Takes initial service request or question, interviews users for details, and performs other data gathering. Implements complex changes to satisfy requests. Researches, responds and recommends to complex user questions as needed.
  • Explores new platform and technology alternatives. Researches, analyzes, and prepares CBA and report findings to all levels of Management and up to CIO. Identifies & implements major process improvements that impact all Information Technology areas.
  • Provides documentation for overall system and configuration. Completes overall and specific area system assessments and generates reports to management to relay findings. Provides input to and recommendations for BTS wide procedures and practices. Provides complete documentation for software and hardware installations, datacenter procedures, group procedures, problems and changes.
  • Defines and leads large and complex projects, covering more than one software, hardware or service component that includes people from any area of IT and the business. Provides project research, planning & definition, CBA, resource acquisition, project budget responsibility, project reporting, task monitoring and resource coordination. Participates in the planning and completion of other IT projects as required.
    The expertise you bring
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or another related field is required.
  • Master’s degree desirable.
  • 10 or more years of experience as a Senior OS/390 or Senior CICS Systems Programmer, Senior UNIX Administrator, or Senior WebShere Administrator.
    Our salary ranges are determined by many factors including location, role, experience, and skillset of the candidate. The following ranges displayed reflect the target base salary for new hires, but your recruiter will share more specific compensation information with you during the hiring process. The typical base salary range for this position is: $135,000 – $179,000, based on the factors aforementioned. For candidates located in San Francisco, CA; Washington DC; our Massachusetts based offices and the New York City metro area, the base salary range is $157,000 -$184,000. In addition to base salary, full time Intact employees are also eligible for bonus potential and a full range of benefits to include:
