About the position
Are you interested in providing support to families and youth in need of mental health services? If so, Devereux might have the right opportunity for you! We are looking to hire a passionate individual to join our team as a Therapist/Behavior Specialist.
Devereux Florida provides programs and services for children and families in the foster care system whose needs may extend to children with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities. Based out of Volusia County, FL, this hybrid position is responsible for providing clinical therapy to individuals as well as providing direct and indirect behavior analysis/behavioral programming services to assist children in foster care.
- Responsibilities
- Provide individual and family therapy to children and adolescents in foster care who present with dual diagnoses (e.g., developmental/intellectual disabilities and co-occurring mental health disorders).
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments, behavioral assessments, and risk evaluations to inform treatment planning.
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and behavior intervention plans (BIPs) tailored to each youthβs cognitive, emotional, and developmental needs.
- Utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches (e.g., CBT, trauma-informed care, DBT-informed strategies, behavioral therapy) adapted for youth with developmental or intellectual disabilities.
- Provide behavioral consultation and coaching to foster parents to ensure consistent implementation of behavioral strategies.
- Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBAs) and design interventions to reduce challenging behaviors and increase adaptive functioning.
- Collaborate with child welfare caseworkers, psychiatrists, schools, and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate care and support placement stability.
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation, including progress notes, treatment updates, incident reports, and court-related reports.
- Participate in treatment team meetings, case reviews, and court hearings as needed, providing clinical insight and recommendations.
- Support youth in developing coping skills, emotional regulation, social skills, and daily living skills to improve functioning in home, school, and community environments.
- Monitor treatment progress using data collection and behavioral tracking, adjusting interventions as necessary.
- Provide crisis intervention and safety planning when youth exhibit acute behavioral or mental health concerns.
- Ensure services are delivered in accordance with state child welfare regulations, Medicaid requirements, and agency policies.
- Advocate for youth to ensure access to appropriate educational, therapeutic, and community-based resources.
- Requirements
- Master's degree in counseling, social work, or psychology field required
- 2+ years experience working with children or families in need of mental health, behavioral health, crisis intervention, or related required
- Valid FL State Issued Driver's license
- Successfully pass pre-employment medical screenings which include: Drug Screen and TB Test.
