Job Description

The Kids Guide (https://thekidsguide.com) is a leading provider of American history educational materials for K-12 students nationwide. We are exclusively seeking experienced American history curriculum writers with proven expertise in developing American history contents for educational publishers.

Please note: We ARE NOT hiring teachers looking to transition into writing. This is a content creation role focused on writing high-quality, standards-aligned curriculum resources (lesson plans, units, assessments, activities, teacher guides) that engage students and educators. If your background is primarily in classroom instruction without direct experience authoring or developing structured curriculum materials, this role is not a fit—DO NOT APPLY.

    Key Responsibilities:

  • Create original lesson plans, formative/summative assessments, interactive student activities, primary source integrations, and differentiated resources.Align all content to state/national standards while incorporating historiographical perspectives and critical thinking prompts.
  • Collaborate remotely with historians, educators, and designers to refine and iterate on written materials.
  • Revise and edit content based on feedback, ensuring clarity, accuracy, and engagement for diverse learners.
    Required Qualifications:
  • Proven experience (minimum 2 years) specifically in curriculum development or educational content writing—e.g., authoring full units, modules, or programs for publishers, edtech companies, districts, or similar (not lesson planning for a classroom).
  • Bachelor's degree in History, Education, Instructional Design, or related field (Master's strongly preferred).
  • Deep expertise in US history, including primary source analysis and key historiographical debates.
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, engaging, age-appropriate educational content across multiple grade bands.
  • Strong understanding of K-12 standards, backward design, and best practices in history/social studies curriculum.
  • Exceptional writing, research, and editing skills; samples must showcase original curriculum authorship.Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint) and comfort with collaborative tools (e.g., Google Workspace).
  • Preferred:Experience with digital curriculum platforms or interactive content creation.
  • Prior work with primary sources in published educational materials.
To be considered you MUST submit:
  • Resume highlighting specific curriculum development projects (include dates, scope, and outcomes—e.g., "Developed 8-unit Civil War curriculum adopted by 50+ schools").
  • Cover letter explicitly detailing your direct experience writing/creating US history curriculum (not teaching or tutoring).
  • 2–3 samples of your original curriculum work (e.g., full lesson/unit, assessment set, or teacher guide you've authored—PDFs preferred; anonymize student data if needed).
  • APPLICATIONS WITHOUT THESE WILL NOT BE REVIEWED
