Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) to support mission-critical databases in a secure federal IT environment. The ideal candidate will combine deep expertise in bolthires SQL Server administration with hands-on experience deploying, managing, and optimizing workloads in AWS GovCloud IaaS environments. This role requires strong technical acumen, compliance awareness, and the ability to deliver resilient, secure, and scalable database services aligned with DoD and federal agency requirements.

Job Description Successful candidates will demonstrate experience in the management, administration, deployment, and support of SQL Server databases in AWS GovCloud envionrments. Responsibilities include: • Installing, configuring, upgrading, and patching SQL Server instances in AWS GovCloud IaaS and VMware-based environments. • Designing and implementing secure, compliant database architectures aligned with DoD and federal agency standards. • Managing database performance, capacity, and availability, including replication, clustering, and disaster recovery strategies.

• Developing and maintaining COOP and DR runbooks to ensure mission continuity. • Implementing backup, recovery, and high availability solutions across multiple regions and availability zones. • Supporting integrations OpenText ECM product suite. • Applying encryption, IAM policies, and access control mechanisms to safeguard sensitive data. • Collaborating with architects, developers, and security teams to ensure database solutions meet operational and compliance needs. Qualifications • 5+ years administering and managing bolthires SQL Server databases in enterprise environments.

• Strong knowledge of AWS GovCloud IaaS for database hosting, provisioning, and scaling. • Knowledge of and/or experience working on OpenText ECM solutions is highly desired. • Experience with SQL Server clustering, AlwaysOn Availability Groups, replication, and disaster recovery. • Demonstrated experience in disaster recovery planning, testing, and execution in AWS GovCloud. • Proven ability to design and implement COOP strategies for federal agency workloads. • Familiarity with DoD and federal compliance frameworks (FedRAMP, NIST, DISA STIGs).

• Proficiency in automation tools (CloudFormation, Terraform, or Ansible) for database provisioning and management. • Experience with monitoring tools (CloudWatch, SQL Server Management Studio, AWS Config) for performance and compliance. • Strong understanding of database security, encryption-at-rest/in-transit, and IAM integration. Typical Duties/Abilities • Collaborate with technical teams to translate business requirements into secure, scalable SQL Server solutions. • Provision and manage SQL Server databases in AWS GovCloud to support enterprise workloads.

• Monitor and optimize database performance, ensuring compliance with DoD and federal standards. • Implement automated backup, replication, and disaster recovery processes. • Develop, document, and maintain COOP and DR procedures to ensure mission continuity. • Conduct regular disaster recovery and COOP exercises to validate readiness and compliance. • Provide technical support to system owners and users, addressing database-related issues. Soft Skills • Experience working with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Lean Startup, XP).

• Strong communication and collaboration skills with a track record of solution ownership. • Ability to articulate and document design/configuration choices and build consensus among stakeholders. • Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail and compliance requirements. Education/Certifications • BS degree in Information Technology or related technical discipline. • Security+ Certification (desired). • bolthires Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or AWS Certified Database Specialty (desired).
