The San Francisco Giants are seeking an Analyst to join the R&D team in the Baseball Operations department. This role focuses on long-term research that provides competitive advantages and involves analyzing player performance through various datasets. Responsibilities Conduct long-term, open-ended research to advance the Giants’ understanding of player performance Extract novel patterns and actionable insights from both old and new baseball datasets, including careful evaluation of signal/noise ratio, confounding variables, and uncertainty Support the Director, Baseball Research on complex research projects and contribute original ideas Prototype research outputs into light weight tools and visualizations for use across Baseball Ops Perform ad-hoc statistical analysis and quantitative research to support various areas of Baseball Ops Evaluate and adapt public baseball research and vendors for potential integration Skills Degree (or equivalent experience) in a quantitative field, such as engineering, physical sciences, computer science, or applied math Proficiency in SQL and at least one general-purpose programming language (e.g.

Python, R) Experience building and validating statistical/ML models (regression, classification, etc.) on real datasets Demonstrated ability to complete open-ended, ambiguous projects from initial question to final deliverable Top-notch critical thinking skills, including ability to identify data issues; ability to articulate assumptions, limitations, and uncertainties in a process; and ability to distill complex topics into interpretable results Passion and curiosity for baseball analytics Strong work ethic with initiative and attention to detail Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to team culture Experience in computer vision, spatiotemporal data, or deep learning is a plus 1-2 years of sports experience and/or background in baseball or softball is a plus Benefits Robust medical, dental and vision coverage Generous 401(K) matching program Complimentary Giants tickets Dedicated mental health support Hybrid working environment Transportation benefits Wellness programs Paid time off including half day Fridays during the season and an extended holiday break Company Overview
