Position Summary
The Assistant Property Accounting Manager handles the management and oversight of 1-2 accountants, month end close, financial statement reviews, and audits. This position will also be responsible for full cycle reporting for a limited portfolio of properties which includes overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and BS reconciliations, etc.
- Responsibilities
- Work towards supervising 1-2 Property/Senior Accountants
- Prepare monthly financial information in accordance with deadlines/requirements while adhering to accounting policies and procedures and maintaining effective internal controls
- Prepare financials for a limited portfolio of properties
- Ensure financial integrity of properties assigned to team by reviewing monthly financial reports
- Support Accounting Manager by serving as resource for all accountants on the team
- Effectively communicate and collaborate with clients and property management in a timely manner while providing exceptional customer service and escalate as appropriate
- Perform audit liaison responsibilities for internal and external financial audits
- Assist in new property onboarding and dispositions as assigned
- Ensure critical dates are met (taxes, insurance, debt payments, etc.)
- Effectively communicate team updates to Manager/Controller weekly
- Participate in the execution of strategic initiates such as Information Technology, Policies and Procedures, etc
- Use of detailed technical accounting skills to assess appropriateness of accounting treatment
- Ensure cash flow management topay the property expenses and to adequately predict the need for funding
- Participate in interviewing/hiring team, performance reviews, goal setting and employee developmental planning
- Act as a mentor to help train new or less experienced accounting staff
- Participate in the preparation & maintenance of written policies & procedures for functions/duties performed
- Perform other duties and tasks as assigned by Supervisor or Executive Team
- Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance or equivalent experience
- 3+ Years of Property Management Experience Preferred or equivalent
- 0-1+ Year of Hands On Managerial Experience
- Proficient in Microsoft Office
- May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time
- Must be able to read documents, computer screens and data
- Must be able to hear and understand verbal communications in person and over the phone or computer
- May occasionally be required to lift or carry items such as files or office supplies weighing up to 15 pounds
- Must be able to operate a computer, keyboard, mouse and other office equipment
